A potted bonsai with a winding, S-curved trunk and five distinct canopy clusters, sitting in a blue-gray rectangular pot. At a perfectly square 85 x 85 stitches, this is one of the larger designs in the collection and reads as a genuine centerpiece rather than an accent.
About This Pattern
Bonsai carries a specific meditative, unhurried association that most florals don’t — it suits a home office, a tea corner, or anywhere the goal is calm rather than color. The design’s size also gives it real presence on a wall in a way a small single-stem flower can’t manage, so it works well as a standalone statement piece or paired with our monstera leaf pattern for a “collector’s shelf” grouping. If you’re drawn to this calmer register, our lotus flower pattern shares the same zen framing on a smaller scale.

Skill Level
Twenty-one colors is on the higher end for this collection, but the distribution is forgiving: two greens (989 Forest Green and 905 Parrot Green - Dark) cover 1,230 of the 3,126 total stitches for the canopy, and three browns (839, 838, 840) cover another 724 for the trunk — together over 60% of the design before the remaining colors, many under 10 stitches each, come into play for shading detail.

Tips for Stitching This Pattern
Work the trunk (839, 838, 840) completely before starting on the canopy clusters — the S-curve shape is the piece’s visual anchor, and having it finished first makes it much easier to judge where each of the five green canopy sections should sit relative to the bend in the trunk. The pot uses its own separate palette (317 Pewter Gray, 415 Pearl Gray, 03 Tin - Medium) that doesn’t reappear anywhere else in the design, so stitch it as a self-contained block at the end rather than interleaving it with the tree above.
