A single monstera leaf, split-cutout silhouette and all, built entirely from stacked blocks of green. At 82 x 97 stitches it’s one of the larger designs in our pixel-art collection, closer to an evening project across several sittings than a single afternoon.
About This Pattern
The monstera has become the houseplant everyone recognizes — that dramatic split-leaf shape shows up on everything from tote bags to tile, and this pattern gives it the same treatment cross stitch usually reserves for roses and sunflowers. It reads well as a single statement piece in a plant-filled reading nook or a kitchen that’s more jungle than farmhouse. If you’re building out a houseplant gallery wall, it pairs naturally with our bonsai tree pattern for a “collector’s shelf” look rather than a single lonely leaf on the wall.

Skill Level
Every stitch here is a full cross stitch, so there’s no new technique to learn — what makes this intermediate is sheer stitch count and color management. DMC 703 (Chartreuse) and 906 (Parrot Green - Medium) alone cover 2,442 of the 4,830 total stitches, so the leaf’s two main color blocks will eat most of your stitching time; the other 10 colors handle shading and the pale cutout edges in much smaller quantities, several under 20 stitches.

Tips for Stitching This Pattern
Block in the two dominant greens (703 and 906) first across the whole leaf before touching any of the darker shading colors — with a design this size, working color-by-color rather than section-by-section keeps you from losing your place in a symmetric leaf shape where the left and right halves look almost identical. Save DMC 912 (Emerald Green - Light), which appears only once in the entire chart, for dead last so you don’t have to hunt for a single stitch buried in a sea of green while you’re still filling in the main shape. See our pixel art cross-stitch guide for more on why this flat-color style stitches up differently than a shaded chart, or our botanical pattern roundup for more houseplant and flower designs like this one.
