A cherry-topped cupcake with a tall swirl of white frosting and a pink striped wrapper, done in the same bold, flat-color pixel-art style driving a lot of the kawaii food cross-stitch trend right now. At 64 x 77 stitches it’s taller than it is wide, so it suits a narrow frame or a spot on the wall next to a cabinet.
About This Pattern
This one’s an easy gift for anyone who bakes, and it holds up well as a small framed piece in a kitchen or breakfast nook without reading as twee. The frosting swirl is shaded in three tones of white and cream rather than flat white, which is what gives it the sense of piped texture even though every stitch is a plain full cross. It pairs naturally with our other pixel-art dessert patterns — stitch it alongside a donut or a slice of cake for a small kitchen gallery wall instead of framing it alone.

Skill Level
Beginner
Every stitch in this chart is a full cross stitch, so there’s no half-stitch shading or backstitch outlining to learn before you start. The color count is higher than a typical beginner pattern at 20 DMC shades, but that’s front-loaded complexity, not stitching complexity — DMC 310 (black outline) and B5200 (snow white) alone cover nearly 1,500 of the 3,652 total stitches, so the bulk of the piece is just two colors once you’re past sorting the floss.

Tips for Stitching This Pattern
Stitch the black outline (DMC 310, 809 stitches) before any of the fill colors — it’s the pattern’s structural grid, and having every boundary line down first makes it obvious at a glance where the frosting shading (3866, 951, 950, 739) is supposed to break from the wrapper stripes (3716, 3687, 3688, 3727) instead of having to keep checking the chart. Six of the twenty colors appear fewer than five times each (988, 703, 819, 739, BLANC, 3865) — stitch those last as isolated accents once the rest of the piece gives you a clear reference for exactly where they sit. If you’re new to the flat-color style this pattern uses, our guide to pixel art cross-stitch covers why it stitches up differently than a traditionally shaded chart.
