A smiling brown mug of coffee with rising steam curls, a scatter of coffee beans, and a couple of sugar cubes resting on a teal saucer. At 52 x 59 stitches, there’s enough room in the design for the scene’s small details to actually read clearly once stitched.
About This Pattern
This is the kitchen and drink-themed entry in our kawaii food collection — separate from the dessert and fast-food pieces, it’s built for the coffee-obsessed rather than the sweet tooth. It’s a natural gift for a coworker’s desk, a kitchen nook, or anywhere you want something that says “before coffee, don’t talk to me” without actually printing the phrase on the wall.
Pattern Details
- Stitch count: 52 x 59
- Finished size: 3.7“ x 4.2“
- Thread: 22 DMC colors (full list in the PDF)
- Stitches used: Full cross stitch
Skill Level
The mug itself carries most of the stitch count: DMC 434 (Brown - Light) and 310 (Black, outline) together cover 733 of the 1,479 total stitches. The remaining 20 colors handle the steam curls, beans, and saucer in smaller amounts — several under 10 stitches — which is where the higher color count comes from despite the design not being especially large.

Tips for Stitching This Pattern
Stitch the mug body (434, 310) and saucer (959, 3848) before the steam curls — the steam sits on top of empty background fabric with no hard edges to guide you, so it’s much easier to place those wispy curls correctly once the solid shapes around them are already finished. The scattered coffee beans use small amounts of 300 (Mahogany - Very Dark) and 898 (Coffee Brown - Very Dark) that look similar on the floss card; keep them in separate labeled bags rather than one shared bundle so you’re not cross-checking the chart every time you pick one up.
