Caught mid-bite and not sorry about it, a baby raccoon clutches a chocolate chip cookie nearly as wide as its own body. It stands on a strip of grass dotted with clover, one yellow dandelion off to the side.

About This Pattern

This is a character piece: the joke is the size of the cookie and the raccoon’s pleased, slightly guilty face. Raccoons have a reputation as snack thieves, and the design leans into it without tipping into slapstick. It suits a kids’ room or a kitchen, or a gift for anyone who’s been caught with a hand in the cookie jar. At 9.9“ x 11.6“ on 14-count it fits a standard 11“ x 14“ frame with a mat. For a matching kids’-room pair, stitch it alongside the Little Fox Drawing with a Crayon.

The raccoon is built mostly from grays — DMC 535 (2,840 stitches) and 451 (1,906) carry the fur and the mask, with 1,855 stitches of B5200 Snow White for the chest, face and tail rings. The outlines are bold and the shapes are big, so the chart is easy to follow. What moves it past Beginner is the 13,831-stitch length and a few small areas where several colors crowd together.

Tips for Stitching This Pattern

The cookie looks simple but packs four browns into a small space: 801 (130 stitches), 739 (47), 435 (46) and 841 (31) make up the chips and the baked edge. Thread all four before you reach it and work the cookie in one sitting so the chips stay evenly spaced. The dandelion in the lower right is the other tight spot — three yellows (726, 307 and 3821, 119 stitches between them) in an area about 13 stitches wide. And because white sits right against dark gray along the mask, finish the 535 and 451 areas before the B5200 so dark fibers don’t drag into the white.
